Description
BUILDING INDEPENDENCE III – MASTERING THE FUNKY SPACES
Building Independence III focuses on one of the most challenging coordination skills for drummers: placing the bass drum on the weakest subdivisions of the beat—the “e’s” and “a’s.”
While many drummers become comfortable playing bass drum notes on strong beats or even the “an” counts, true independence comes when the bass drum can land precisely on the inner subdivisions of the groove without disturbing the hands.
This course isolates those challenging placements and develops the coordination needed to play bass drum notes on the e’s and a’s while keeping the hands steady and consistent.
You’ll strengthen your internal subdivision, improve limb independence, and gain the ability to place bass drum notes exactly where you want them—an essential skill for modern grooves, funk playing, fills, and advanced coordination.
Each exercise is presented in a clear, step-by-step format with multiple video examples:
-
A & B examples break down the coordination and mechanics
-
C examples apply the concept in a musical, real-world groove
High-quality PDF notation is included so you can follow along, practice offline, and track your progress.
Whether you’re pushing your coordination to the next level or refining your control over inner subdivisions, Building Independence III provides a focused system for developing deeper rhythmic independence behind the kit.
